Intermodal Potential For Pasig River Ferry System Seen

The MMDA is seeing more potential for development of the Pasig River Ferry system by providing an intermodal link or making it more convenient to transfer from riverboat to public land transport.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has been continuing to push its Pasig River ferry operations as a viable complement to the mass transport system in Metro Manila . . . Over the past weeks, it has been disclosing plans to expand the network to more stations along the Pasig River and onto stations that will service communities on the Laguna Lake shorelines . . . This was after it launched two more riverboats for ferrying passengers to and from stations already being operated along the Pasig River . . . The latest word from the MMDA is that it is also studying the possibility of establishing an intermodal network to link the Pasig River ferry to land transportation services in Metro Manila . . . MMDA general manager Tim Orbos said the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic is in on the plan for an intermodal ferry transport network . . . This intermodal ferry network can serve as an alternative mode of transportation for commuters from the east side of Metro Manila to specific destinations within the cities of Manila, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Taguig, Marikina and Quezon City . . . Already the Pasig River ferry system is operating out of stations in Pinagbuhatan, San Joaquin, and Maybunga in Pasig City; Guadalupe and Valenzuela in Makati City; Hulo in Mandaluyong City; and Lambingan, Sta. Ana, PUP, Lawton, Escolta and Plaza Mexico in Manila.
