Residents and vehicle owners in Marikina got the chance to conveniently
apply for driving student's permit and renew vehicle registrations from the
Service Outreach Program conducted by the Land Transportation Office over
one Saturday.
The outreach program also included free medical services.
According to LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II, the Service Outreach is being
undertaken on instructions of President Bongbong Marcos and Department of
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista to bring government services closer
to the people under the Bagong Pilipinas program.
Mendoza said that with the outreach program, the LTO goes directly to
communities to serve the people who are too busy, or have their own
personal reasons why they could not immediately go to the agency's branch
and satellite offices.
The outreach program also aims to let people see that LTO transactions can
be done much faster even at the branch and satellite offices, the LTO chief
said.
Mendoza added the outreach program will also help rid the LTO of so-called
fixers who are giving the agency a bad image.
The LTO has conducted similar outreach programs in the past. But with the
latest digital and communications technology these programs should be even
more efficient and effective. The LTO should be encouraged to extend the
program to more communities across the nation.
