Leaders of the House of Representatives made good use of the time they had
during the session break by inspecting roads and highways in the Northern
part of Luzon.
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez recently led select members of Congress and
personnel from the Department of the Interior and Local Government,
Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Tourism, Department
of Transportation, Philippine National Police, and the Philippine Ports
Authority on a "North Inspection Trip".
The expedition covered the provinces of La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte,
Ifugao, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Baguio City, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan
and Pampanga, with the purpose to inspect the country's roads and highways,
vital infrastructures, and installations.
The team also included the checking of the accessibility and width of roads
and other safety measure that can be put in place to reduce the number of
vehicular accidents.
A released statement highlighted that the goal of the expedition was to see
the current condition of roads in Northern Luzon that will allow the
lawmakers to determine the budget that needs to be allotted for the
respective provinces in 2018.
That is a good step in order to see what areas in the respective provinces
need to be prioritized, as well as to ensure the maximum benefit, comfort,
and safety of the Filipino people.
