LTFRB Going After Reckless PUV Drivers

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has initiated a comprehensive crackdown on reckless driving among PUV drivers.

According to a PNA report, this action follows President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s call for stricter road discipline in response to the rising number of road accidents.

Recent road incidents involving reckless drivers, particularly in Commonwealth Avenue and Valenzuela, prompted this response, highlighting the dangers posed by "kamote" drivers.

LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III said his agency is working with the Land Transportation Office, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and local government units (LGUs) to effectively identify and penalize offenders.

Guadiz also reminded PUV franchise operators to manage their drivers or face administrative charges, which could include preventive suspensions or revocation of franchises for repeat violations.

Commuters and other motorists are encouraged to report reckless driving through LTFRB's official communication channels, including a 24/7 hotline and social media.

Here's hoping this crackdown will not go the way of past crackdowns, which fizzle out soon after the press releases are published or broadcast.
