The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is advancing the EDSA Greenways
Project, which involves building approximately 4.7 kilometers of elevated
walkways to improve access to select light rail transit stations along
EDSA.
The DOTr is currently inviting bids for a general consultancy contract to
oversee the project and provide advisory services for operational partners
and construction management.
The initiative aims to enhance the pedestrian environment around four key
stations: Balintawak, Cubao, Guadalupe, and Taft along Epifanio de los
Santos Avenue (EDSA).
The project will construct or upgrade a total of 5 kilometers of covered
elevated walkways surrounding these stations.
DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon is prioritizing this initiative to improve
pedestrian access to major railway stations along EDSA. This effort is part
of a broader active transport program, which includes the addition of 260
kilometers of bike lanes this year.
The new DOTr secretary appears to have his heart in the right place for
lowly pedestrians and commuters, prioritizing project that would make the
daily commute much more comfortable. Elevated covered walkways should
certainly help.
