The Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3) has lifted its ban on heavy luggage
following a directive from Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, pending a
review of the policy.
Luggage or packages exceeding 2 feet by 2 feet are now allowed on stations
and trains while guidelines for such items are under review.
Secretary Dizon criticized the former policy for complicating commuters'
experiences.
MRT-3 General Manager Michael Capati stated that the suspension aims to
enhance commuter comfort, and future decisions on allowable packages will
consider public feedback.
The previous strict luggage rules faced backlash, as many commuters felt it
made travel more difficult, especially for those using the MRT to reach
airports. There were concerns about the lack of accommodation for luggage
at stations and questions about whether the policy aligned with the DOTr's
goal of efficient commuting.
Commuters should be prepared to voice their concerns when MRT-3 or the DOTr
begin public consultations on the issue.
