The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the local government of San
Jose del Monte have agreed on a new site for the MRT-7 San Jose del Monte
Station, according to a report by the Philippine Information Agency.
DOTr engineer Suncris Cadiz confirmed that while the station will remain
along Quirino Highway, its location has been adjusted. Originally planned
near the Muzon-Tungkong Mangga Road intersection, the station will now be
situated closer to the boundary between San Jose del Monte and North
Caloocan.
The San Jose del Monte Station is one of 14 stations along the
28.8-kilometer MRT-7 line, which will connect to the future LRT-MRT Unified
Grand Central Terminal at EDSA-North Avenue.
Construction of the San Jose del Monte Station is expected to be followed
by the Tala Station in North Caloocan. Twelve other stations have already
been completed, with partial operations slated to begin by late 2025 or
early 2026.
In addition to the San Jose del Monte Station, an Intermodal Transportation
Terminal (ITT) will be built to accommodate up to 60 buses, enhancing
transportation connectivity in the area.
Plans are also in place to extend the MRT-7 line to connect with the New
Manila International Airport in Bulacan.
The ₱77 billion MRT-7 project is being undertaken under a
Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) scheme, with San Miguel Corporation (SMC) as
the concessionaire responsible for financing and operation.
It looks like the MRT-7 project approved back in 2008 during the Arroyo
administration may now be completed and become a feather in the cap of the
Marcos Junior administration.
