Commuters are set to benefit from the government's ongoing and upcoming
transport projects, designed to address public transport deficiencies and
traffic congestion.
During a recent press briefing at MalacaƱang, Claire Castro, Undersecretary
of the Presidential Communications Office, highlighted several transport
initiatives aimed at improving commuter connectivity and safety while also
stimulating economic growth.
One of the key developments she cited is the newly inaugurated SM North
EDSA Concourse and Busway Station in Quezon City.
According to Undersecretary Castro, this modern facility serves as a model
for safe, accessible, reliable, and affordable mass transportation.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) ensured that the station
incorporates essential features such as elevators and ramps, making it
accessible to senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and
expectant mothers.
Additional concourses and stations are already in development through a
partnership with SM Prime Holdings. These include the Ortigas and ASEANA
Bus Stations.
Other major transport infrastructure projects being developed in
collaboration with private sector partners include the highly anticipated
Metro Manila Subway Project and the North-South Commuter Railway Project.
Undersecretary Castro emphasized that public-private collaborations are
crucial to ensuring these infrastructure projects proceed efficiently and
meet the needs of a growing population.
Beyond Metro Manila, the government plans to accelerate the Cebu Bus
Transit and Davao Public Transport Modernization projects, both targeted
for completion in the near future.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon
to prioritize these key infrastructure projects.
However, these projects extend beyond simply improving daily commutes.
Investing in transport infrastructure stimulates economic growth by
improving connectivity, facilitating trade, and attracting investments
across multiple sectors.
Private sector involvement can also introduce innovative solutions and
additional funding, while enhancing project efficiency and scale.
Better public transport enhances commuters' quality of life, allowing them
to spend more time with family and participate in social activities instead
of enduring long hours in traffic.
Looking ahead, the government must explore emerging technologies such as
electric buses, automated transit systems, and shared mobility services to
further improve the country's transportation network.
Additionally, transport projects should align with long-term urban planning
strategies, including population growth forecasts and migration trends.
Government's ambitious transport infrastructure projects signify a bright
future for commuters and contribute greatly to the wellbeing and progress
of communities.
