The Land Transportation Office is reminding owners that there are penalties
for not attaching license plates on their vehicles.
In a press statement, LTO Chief Vigo D. Mendoza II, said that owners of
four-wheeled vehicles no longer have excuses for not affixing their license
plates as the backlog has been resolved since early 2024.
Mendoza said that owning a motor vehicle comes with various
responsibilities, including attaching the license plates as soon as they
are released to them.
The LTO earlier encouraged owners to retrieve their license plates from
their car dealers, following reports that many clients have yet to claim
them.
Republic Act 4136, or Land Transportation and Traffic Code of the
Philippines, set a ₱5,000-peso fine for not affixing or not properly
attaching license plates on vehicles.
Mendoza said the LTO has a database of motor vehicle owners who have
already received their license plates. He urge them to attach the license
plates to avoid being penalized.
The press release says this is just a reminder. But vehicle owners should
take it as warning. The next press release may be about a campaign to
catch and penalize violators.
