LTO is pushing for increasing benefits from comprehensive third-party
liability (CTPL) insurance following a recent truck accident on the
Katipunan flyover that resulted in four deaths and 20 injuries.
In a Philippine News Agency report, LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II indicated
that the 200,000-peso compensation for the victims is insufficient to cover
necessary expenses for victims of accidents like the one at the Katipunan
flyover.
Mendoza urged for reforms to enhance the relevance of CTPL insurance while
pointing out a need to change the perception of many vehicle owners that
CTPL is merely a registration requirement.
In discussions with the Insurance Commission, he advocated for higher CTPL
benefits without raising premiums excessively and suggested including
property damage coverage, as proposed by Senator Raffy Tulfo.
Mendoza also stressed the need for timely insurance payments and a hotline
for motorists to address insurance issues during accidents.
If a singular road accident involves multiple victims, will the 200,000
CTPL claims benefit be divided among each victims? This also needs to be
clarified and perhaps fixed for the benefit of victims of such accidents.
