With the completion and opening of the first phase of LRT-1 Cavite
Extension, the Light Rail Transit Line 1 will be operating with 25 stations
spanning around 26 kilometers.
According to newly appointed Light Rail Manila Corp. president and CEO
Enrico Benipayo, the extension will allow commuters to travel in less than
an hour from the Fernando Poe Station, formerly Roosevelt Station, in
Quezon City to the Dr. Santos Station in Paranaque.
All new stations feature elevators, escalators, and tactile guides to cater
to the needs of persons with special needs. The stations also come with
automated entrance gates, ticket vending machines, and teller booths.
With five more stations, the LRT-1 ridership is expected to be boosted by
80,000 daily, from an average of 320,000 to 400,000.
Construction continues with Phase 2 extending the LRT-1 to the Las Piñas
and Zapote Stations and Phase 3 to the Niog Station in Bacoor, Cavite.
With the added LRT-1 stations, commuters can conveniently travel via light
rail trains all the way from Sucat in Paranaque to Masinog in Antipolo with
a convenient transfer to the LRT-2.
