More than a thousand PUVs servicing commuters in Davao City are no longer
plying routes, a third of the city's bus and jeepney transport system.
According to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-Davao
Region, many operators of jeepneys decided to mothball their units while
waiting for assistance to become part of the P73.4 billion Davao Public
Transport Modernization Project.
As a stop-gap measure to alleviate the transport shortage in the city,
LTFRB-Davao is proposing to the city government the temporary use of
28-seater modernized PUVs to service commuters until the Davao Bus Project
is finally implemented.
A survey and study on the interim plan is now being completed for
submission to the city government.
The Davao Bus Project envisions a network of modernized buses to service
the city routes replacing PUJs.
Davao residents should be supporting the LTFRB solution to the shortage in
transport in the city.
