Drivers whose licenses expired from April to August of 2023 were directed
to apply for renewal from April 16 to 30.
Land Transportation Office chief Vigor Mendoza II said there are now enough
plastic cards ready for printing of license plates.
However, according to news reports, Mendoza also said those covered by his
directive would face penalties if they fail to renew their licenses by the
end of April.
The reports added that Mendoza said only motorists with expired licenses
from April to August 2023 may claim plastic cards citing the limited
availability of plastic cards.
Mendoza noted that only 1.6 million out of the 3.2 million plastic cards
ordered have been delivered to the LTO while admitting it can't fill up the
4.1 million backlog in plastic card licenses in one blow.
Kibitzers are saying LTO still can't claim they have solved the plastic
card problem until they stop staggering renewals of expired licenses from
last year.
