HARI Foundation, Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc., corporate social
responsibility arm, recently presented the Hyundai Icon for Biodiversity
award to ten biodiversity heroes in a ceremony held at the New World Hotel
Manila Bay.
This is in connection with Hyundai's partnership with the ASEAN Centre for
Biodiversity or ACB to take its advocacy for education in environmental
stewardship on a regional scale as the Philippine auto industry's champion
for biodiversity in the ASEAN region.

"We have been trying to engage with private sectors but we have not been
successful. We tried regional workshops on business and biodiversity. There
is also a call for action globally with the convention on biodiversity for
business to be engaged but we are very fortunate that Hyundai has in its
heart and it's core of operations the braining of their own industry
operations and we are very pleased with this partnership."
According to ACB, the ASEAN Biodiversity Heroes will serve as ambassadors
of biodiversity conservation in the region and will be engaged in a series
of public engagements aimed to inspire people to support and promote ASEAN
Centre for Biodiversity's advocacy.

ASEAN CENTRE FOR BIODIVERSITY
"The role of the biodiversity heroes is really to inspire through their
success stories. We have scientists, we have community organizers, we have
those businessmen even with doctorate on the environment working on the
protection of our species and ecosystems. These are rare, dedicated, and
passionate people who can be partners and inspiration not only for all of
us but particularly for the youth to do more for the environment so in the
future, we will all be heroes as well."
