More news from the DOTr, the agency is pumping up their drive on road
safety and will update the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan.
The Department of Transportation is updating the Philippine Road Safety
Action Plan that was launched in 2011. With this, the department recently
announced various road safety initiatives of the government to minimize the
number of fatal road crashes in the country.
The DOTr announced that Implementing Rules and Regulations of RA 10916 or
the Road Speed Limiter Act of 2016 has been completed and is set to be
released soon. With the department targeting speed as a road safety risk
factor, the DOTR says that the Road Speed Limiter Act of 2016 requires
Public Utility Vehicles or PUVs to install speed limiter devices designed
to limit the speed of the vehicles.
The DOTr also announced that the department has signed the Safety of
Children Aboard Motorcycles Act that prohibits children who cannot reach
the foot peg of a motorcycle and cannot fully hold on to the driver. The
department also signed the Anti-Distracted Driving Act that prohibits the
use of electronic devices while driving. The DOTr plans to release the
updated Philippine Action Plan by June this year.
It's good to know that the DOTr is updating the Road Safety Action Plan in
addressing the increasing number of motoring problems nowadays. And to all
road users, we should cooperate in making the roads a safer place.///That's
all for this week and we thank BMW Philippines for these transportation and
traffic management updates.
